We’re back from our adventures beyond 65 degrees south latitude! (For those challenged by the Southern Hemisphere’s geography, 65 degrees north latitude puts you in central Iceland. Brrr.)
We arrived back in Northern Virginia Monday morning after two full days crossing the Drake “Upchuck” Passage by boat (”Paid your Drake Tax yet, sir? No?” hurl), fourteen hours of flights from Tierra del Fuego to Washington Dulles and a thirty minute cab ride home. There are over 3800 photos to sort through (am working feverishly on this) and a lot to tell about, from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, tango dancing and Recoleta Cemetery to the sub-tropical rain forests of northern Argentina, languid river trips and the breathtaking falls at Iguazú to the isolation, the stunning blues and whites, the glaciers and mountains, the seals and whales and yes, the penguins (and penguin poop! seriously, the stuff is everywhere…), of Antarctica.
We’re spending the next two weekends in California celebrating two milestone birthdays – MegaJan’s 70th and my grandmother’s 90th – so updates will be slow to non-existent until I get back, but I’ll post what I can when I can until I’m back home.
Hope the holidays treated you well, that your pants still button after all the eating and that 2007 has kicked off in fine fashion. Hang tight and I’ll have some stories up soon.
